The long wait for the Episode 2 of The Wolf Among Us will be over soon. Today developer Telltale Games revealed that they plan to release "Smoke and Mirrors" in early February.
The first episode of Wolf launched in October. Fans were expecting the second episode a month or two later so they're getting impatient. This frustration is compounded by the fact that PC and Mac gamers had to buy all five episodes up front. A long complaint thread on the Telltale forums led Telltale to give an update on Episode 2.
"Ep 2 should be available the first week of February," Telltale's Kevin Bruner said. "We are working hard with all of our partners (Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Apple) to coordinate everything, but we’re confident enough to announce that here. The episode is looking really good (as is the rest of the season!). We are very concerned about the long delay for this episode, but this is one of those occasions where several things conspired against us (not to mention the additional delays due to the holidays)."
"I won't dive into the details, but it’s been an unusual and specific set of circumstances and we do not anticipate it happening again as we go forward with the rest of the season."
I can't help but wonder if Telltale's busy schedule is to blame. They've got three other series to juggle in 2014 in addition to Wolf Among Us. They released the first episode of The Walking Dead: Season Two in December and plan to launch Game of Thrones and Borderlands games later in the year.
Wolf Among Us is a prequel to the DC comic book series Fables. After being driven from their homes, a group of fairy tale characters have made their home in New York City. The player is Bigby Wolf, formerly known as the Big Bad Wolf. Bigby must keep order within the Fables community and also prevent its members from drawing attention from the outside world.
If you've played The Walking Dead, Wolf should be an easy game to pick up. Most of the gameplay consists of exploring the environment and speaking with other characters. There's also some combat resolved with Quick Time Events. Perioidically you have to make decisions that will have an impact on the direction of the story.

In the first episode, "Faith," Bigby was investigating a mysterious murder. The investigation will continue in Episode Two. Bigby's search will take him to a gentleman's club called Pudding & Pie. During the episode, he'll encounter Jack Horner.
Episode One ended with a major cliffhanger and it's a shame we've had to wait so long for the next chapter. Still, I really enjoyed the first episode so I'm looking forward to continuing Bigby's tale. You can read more of my thoughts about "Faith" in my review.
