Blizzard will soon be adding a Bad Robot pet to their MMO World of Warcraft. This pet is meant as a show of respect for Bad Robot Productions, the TV/film company founded by JJ Abrams.
"One of the core values we live by here at Blizzard is 'Embrace Your Inner Geek,'" reads a new post on the Battle.net blog. "We play countless games, we collect comics and card games, we love cutting-edge technology and computer hardware, we’re fascinated by science and discovery, and many of us are movie buffs. Movies represent the combined imaginations of talented writers and visionaries, artists and operators, editors and producers, that can culminate in an awesome cinematic experience."
Bad Robot was responsible for the shows Fringe and Lost, among others. The company's film credits include Super 8, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and the Star Trek reboot series. They'll be producing the upcoming Star Wars films as well.
JJ Abrams will also be venturing into the treacherous territory of video game films soon, too. He's currently planning adaptations of Portal and Half-Life. Though this tribute pet might lead you to believe otherwise, he's not going to direct the WoW film. Instead, that project is being helmed by Duncan Jones.
The Bad Robot pet will be craftable by engineers. It's not clear how they'll acquire the recipe, though. Blizzard simply says that the pet will be included in a future update. Presumably they mean Patch 5.3, which is currently on the PTR.
