Blizzard announced today that they've raised $2.3 million in relief funds for Hurricane Sandy victims. They managed to raise the money by selling an in-game pet for World of Warcraft.
The pet in question is the Cinder Kitten. This molten feline sells for $10 on the Blizzard Store. For the month of December, 100% of the money earned by selling these Cinder Kittens went toward Sandy relief.
This is the second time Blizzard has used World of Warcraft's pet store as a vehicle for charity. They previously donated the proceeds from the Cenarion Hatchling to the relief fund for the 2011 tsunami in Japan. That particular fundraising drive managed to raise $1.9 million.
Blizzard thanked its fan on the Battle.net blog and also provided a picture of the giant check they'll be giving to the American Red Cross. The check's custom art shows the Cinder Kitten relaxing somewhere in Pandaria.
