Blizzard will release Patch 5.3 for World of Warcraft on May 21st, the company announced on Twitter this weekend. Patch 5.3, dubbed "Escalation," adds new content for almost every type of player.
The story of Patch 5.3 revolves around unrest among the Horde. The Darkspear Trolls are in rebellion against Garrosh Hellscream. Both Horde and Alliance players alike will assist this insurgency through new quests. Players will be able to wage war on each other as well through a new battleground called Deepwind Gorge and a Tiger's Peak arena.
There are several new PvE diversions offered in the patch as well. Four new Scenarios will give small groups of players a challenge. The patch also introduces heroic versions of existing scenarios to give elite players a challenge. The Brawler's Guild from Patch 5.1 has been updated with two new tiers of bosses as well.
Patch 5.3 doesn't include a new raid zone, though. Raiders will have to wait until Patch 5.4 for a new challenge. That's probably for the best, though, as most guilds are still working their way through Throne of Thunder from Patch 5.2.
In the past three months, WoW has lost 1.3 million subscribers. We'll see if the new content released by Blizzard is able to stop the mass exodus.
