Microsoft presented several multiplatform games during their E3 press conference. It was a bit curious but there was a reason: the DLC for each game will be debuting first on the Xbox 360. In some cases, the 360 is the only platform getting the new content.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be offering all of its DLC first on 360. This shouldn't be a surprise, due to Microsoft's long-standing agreement with Activision. If previous games were any indication, PS3 and PC gamers will need to wait at least an extra month to get each DLC pack.
Xbox 360 gamers will also get the first three DLC packs from South Park: The Stick of Truth before anyone else. These DLC packs are said to be standalone adventures. The 360 will be the only platform to receive the Mysterion Superhero DLC pack, which adds a super-themed costume as well as a weapon and ability.
Tomb Raider, meanwhile, will provide the Xbox 360 with one piece of exclusive DLC. No details were provided on this content by Crystal Dynamics. It's also not clear whether it'll be free or not.
During their demo of Resident Evil 6, Capcom said that the survival horror game's DLC will premiere first on 360. Like Crystal Dynamics, Capcom didn't provide any additional details on this content. It sounds like this timed exclusivity will apply to all of the game's DLC, though.
These timed exclusive deals might persuade gamers who own more than one gaming system to buy a multiplatform game on the 360. Does that happen often enough to be worth however much money Microsoft has to pay these companies, though? Maybe so. Microsoft has been making these sorts of deals for a few years now.
