Sega is bringing the first two Yakuza games to the PS3. An HD compilation of PS2 games Yakuza and Yakuza 2 will be making its way to Japan by the end of the year.
According to Famitsu (via NeoGAF), the compilation will arrive on November 1st. It's priced at 5,229 yen, or $65. The bundle is simply called Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Edition so if nothing else we can expect higher resolution visuals. Perhaps they'll throw in a demo for Yakuza 5, too, considering it'll be arriving the following month.
Sega hasn't announced this bundle for North America yet. Yakuza games typically arrive in the West a full year after their Japanese debut. This would mean we won't get our hands on the dual pack until next fall.
Would Sega bother releasing the Yakuza compilation in North America if it won't arrive until Fall 2013? That's the time that the next Xbox and PlayStation console are expected to arrive. Would remakes of last-gen games hold the same appeal at that point? It seems somewhat unlikely, considering that Sega is trying to keep its software portfolio lean.
Anyway, enjoy this trailer for the awesome HD bundle we may never get.
