ZeniMax Media, parent company to Fallout 3 studio Bethesda Softworks, announced today that it has acquired DOOM/Quake developer id Software.
The press release stresses that it will not affect the development operations of id Software. Founder John Carmack will continue in his role as Technical Director. Other key personnel have been signed to long-term contracts as well.
"“This was a unique opportunity to team with a smart, sophisticated publisher like Bethesda Softworks where the interests of the studio and the publisher will be fully aligned in the development and marketing of our titles," said id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead. "In addition, we will now have financial and business resources to support the future growth of id Software, a huge advantage which will result in more and even better games for our fans.”
id Software is currently developing Rage, an open-world, post-apocalyptic game with driving and shooting elements. An open-world, post-apocalyptic, game, eh? Bet they'll have loads to talk about with Bethesda.
