Zombie Driver Smashes Into Ouya
While new games are dropping on the Ouya on a regular basis, it can be hard to tell which ones are worth your hard-earned dollars. Thankfully, every now and then, a tried and true IP makes the jump from other platforms, meaning you'll know exactly what you're getting yourself into. Such is the case with Zombie Driver HD, previously well received elsewhere and now available on the tiny Android-powered home console.
Driving? Check. Zombies? Check. Driving over zombies? Check, so long as we're talking about Zombie Driver HD, Exor Studios' mission-based driving game where half of the fun lies in rolling over the shambling hordes of undead monstrosities that have taken over the world.
Previously available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, Zombie Driver HD is a direct port of those previous offerings and can now be downloaded on the Ouya for just $4.99. According to a statement from Exor, Zombie Driver HD “ has received full console treatment and can be enjoyed without compromise on the gameplay quality.” Well, that's always nice to know.
Described as an “insane mix of cars, speed, explosions, blood and zombies,” Zombie Driver HD puts the player behind the wheel from a top-down perspective in a town overrun with the walking dead. One of the best drivers for hire, you'll take on all sorts of jobs that have you saving citizens, pitching in with the military, transporting supplies and the like, all while avoiding (or running straight through) the countless zombie hordes.
Along with the single player campaign, you'll also be able to enjoy the Slaughter and Blood Race modes, as well as experiment with various types of vehicles and upgrades. Blood Race is basically a more gory version of a kart racer, tasking players with getting from Point A to Point B while trying to blow each other up in the process. Slaughter mode is basically horde mode, seeing how long you can survive wave after wave of zombies in specially crafted arenas.
The campaign features 31 missions all told, including boss battles, night/day trips, special vehicles to cruise around in and more. Blood Race adds 30 events and three game types to the roster while Slaughter offers an additional seven arenas to get through.
You'll uncover 12 vehicles throughout the game, ranging from sports cars and school buses to a fire truck, bulldozer and even a tank. There are also nearly 10 upgrades to attach to your vehicles, giving you some additional firepower for taking out the zombies. Weapons can be further upgraded, too, making them more and more powerful tools of destruction.
