In the short time since actor Gene Hackman’s passing, talk surrounding the matter has changed rather drastically. Hours after the initial reports seemed to rule out foul play, an update on Hackman’s death and that of his wife Betsy Arakawa had ruled the circumstances suspicious enough to warrant further investigation. This has led to a new report specifying items that have been taken by New Mexico law enforcement in the hopes of aiding their efforts.

A new story out of TMZ has run through all of the belongings removed from the residence of the late Superman star as a result of the search warrant obtained. The list of those items is as follows:

According to police documents ... deputies who conducted the search at the home took a thyroid medication, Tylenol and Diltiazem -- a calcium-blocker used to treat high blood pressure and other heart-related issues. Cops also took records from MyQuest -- a healthcare website used to check test results, schedule appointments and keep track of one's health history. A 2025 calendar and two cell phones were also taken.

There's no knowing what significance the items taken from Gene Hackman's home with Betsy Arakawa may have. Further complicating this story is the fact that, according to a report from the Daily Mail, Mr. Hackman’s daughters Leslie Anne and Elizabeth Jean claimed the Crimson Tide actor had recently been in good health.

This, of course, leaves this matter dependent not only on what said items reveal to investigators, especially in how they correlate with the undetermined cause of death. No matter how you look at the matter, the sadness that has resulted from Gene Hackman’s death still remains.

While mostly retired since his final role in 2004’s Welcome to Mooseport, the two-time Academy Award winner had focused on writing as his chosen profession. Leading a relatively private life in the decades after, fans have wondered how Hackman had been doing, especially after the occasional public sighting would make its way on to social media.

As we’ve seen with stories such as Bill Murray’s Royal Tenenbaums anecdote, celebrity tributes to Gene Hackman’s legacy have not been in short supply. Nor have the fan reactions recalling perhaps one of the most inspiring speeches in film history, delivered by the man himself in 1986's Hoosiers. This is definitely an indication as to why this case may be closely followed by media professionals and spectators alike.

In the wake of such an unexpected loss, all anyone can hope is that the results of this investigation bring closure to the friends and family who are currently navigating the grieving process. Here's hoping that whatever answers are found can do so while also allowing the Hackman family the time to privately sort these feelings.
