2006 MTV Movie Awards Nominate Virgin
The MTV Movie Awards are meaningless, empty, and driven mostly by corporate profits. But we'll all be watching on June 8th when they're handed out. Or, if not on June 8th at 9pm, some time in the months after when MTV reruns the ceremony over and over and over again.
Face it, they mean nothing but watching them can be a lot of fun. More fun usually than the Oscars, Independept Spirit Awards, or People's Choice Awards of the world. It helps that they're talking about movies that we've all actually seen, instead of say... some movie that hasn't even been released anywhere outside of New York and LA.
So, in preparation for their empty-headed 2006 awarding MTV has released their batch of 2006 nominees, culled from a random sampling of whichever nominees they think will get them the most ratings. The 40 Year-Old Virgin will get at least a little of the attention it deserved. It'll probably lose to Wedding Crashers since MTV caters to teenagers easily swayed by an excessive amount of bare boobies (the only category in which Crashers trumps Virgin, but at least MTV nominated the hell out of it. Other movies mostly overlooked by other awards undeservedly like Sin City appear, as well as some less undeservedly overlooked films. For instance this is Tyler Perry's second year in the MTV Awards nomination list. Last year he was nominated for Diary of a Mad Black Woman, this year for Family Reunion.
Scroll down for a look at all the 2006 MTV Movie Award nominees. The ceremony will film June 3rd and then be aired on MTV June 8th.
