In what may just be the coolest thing movie fans get to watch online today, a video has made its way online that sets movie clips to the lyrics of Jay-Z’s “99 Problems.” Watch it ahead and see if you recognize all of the movies that are featured. ?

The video below is not a music video. It’s more a compilation of movie clips featuring words and phrases from Jay-Z’s popular song, arranged to match the lyrics, with a bit of musical accompaniment in the background. The lyrics are also conveniently subtitled at the bottom, which makes it easy to keep up. What’s not so easy is trying to catch all the movies featured, but that’s part of the fun.

Of course, some parts are easier to hear than others, which is why the subtitles help. The video above was recently shared by TheNerdist.com and I have to agree with the writer who posted it when they say, “I have no idea what possessed video DJs Eclectic Method to take Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” and recreate it with clips from movies.” But after watching it all the way through, I like to think that movie history has slowly been shaping itself around the song, with each featured film somehow mysteriously finding its own portion of the lyrics in their script. But that may just be my overactive imagination at work. I suppose the likely explanation is that Jonny Wilson (Eclectic Method credits him for composing the video) had the time, skills, and the appreciation for movies and rap to put it together.
