When I was getting DVD screeners of movies a few weeks ago, due to my membership in the New York Film Critics Online, it was nice to think all of those "For your Oscar consideration" messages were for me. But now the truth comes out-- the members of the actual Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are receiving their ballots this week, and unless I'm mistaken, I won't be getting one.

Ah well-- it's more fun shouting from the peanut gallery anyway. The Academy members have more than two weeks to deliberate over their ballots, which means if they can't schedule the time to watch the free copies of The Wrestler and Doubt that have arrived on their doorsteps, its their own damn fault. At that point Oscar obsessives like myself will really start freaking out, knowing that the secrets of Ocsar nominations are already decided, and we don't even know it! But now's the time for convincing the Academy voters about their choices-- so how about that Wall-E, guys?
