Actors Announce SAG Nominees

The writers and producers have spoken, now it’s time for the actors to announce their nominees for the best of 2005. The Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) nominees are out!

Some of the best news is that films released earlier in the year are consistently being remembered, proven before in the WGA and PGA nominees and now with the SAG nominees. Russell Crowe got a nomination despite Cinderella Man being almost completely missed in theaters, and the same is true of Charlize Theron’s performance in North Country. Crash and Hustle and Flow received best ensemble nominations, as well as individual nominations for Don Cheadle and Matt Dillon.

On the television side, new sitcom “My Name is Earl” saw the nomination of star Jason Lee, Cinema Blend favorite William Shatner was nominated for his work on “Boston Legal” (as was James Spader), and the best show nobody ever watches, “Arrested Development” was named in the Ensemble category.

With actors being a large part of the Academy membership, these nominations are certain to affect the upcoming Oscar nominations. Out of the eleven previous SAG awards, five ensemble winners have gone on to win Best Picture.
