The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Trailer: Goblins, OsCorp and Electro Cram Amazing Clip
The first official trailer for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swung across the web today, giving eager fans their first look at Andrew Garfield’s masked superhero in action in what looks to be an explosive (or, I guess, electric is the better adjective) sequel.
We’ve been building up to the tease all week, sharing photos, video clips, a few juicy rumors, and an official synopsis. Now that the trailer is here, what do we learn?
Peter Parker (Garfield) is having more fun as Spider-Man. His dual identity continues to be a problem for his troubled relationship with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), but in the mask, Peter’s more confident … and New York’s a safer place.
For now.
While Electro (Jamie Foxx) certainly remains the chief baddie in Amazing Spider-Man 2, this teaser trailer goes a LOT further into developing OsCorp and, specifically, Dane DeHaan’s character of Harry Osborn. From what we know, Harry will be portrayed as Peter’s long-time childhood friend, who returns to the picture after being away for a long time, and whose influence over the experiments at OsCorp will lead to bigger problems for Peter/Spidey down the line.
Did you see the hints in the trailer? The Doctor Octopus arms and the Vulture wings? The animal experiments – the hybrid creations that led to the birth of both Spider-Man and The Lizard – are going to create an army of super-villains. Richard Parker returns, ready to explain to his son what he knew about OsCorp. Harry cements himself as the chief antagonist … at least, until Norman takes over. A lot of the key pieces have moved into place in this trailer.
Beyond that, it just looks AMAZING! This is a Spider-Man story being told on an EPIC scale. The action looks insanely good, with Webb displaying as much confidence as his hero. Look at that interaction between Spidey and Electro in the final shot. It’s breathtaking. The mythology of the hero is altering, but I LOVE the decisions Webb and his team is making. I’m even OK with Harry being the first Goblin … and I never would have believed that years ago.
