American Dreamz Become Reality
When your society is in disarray, sometimes laughter is the best (and only) medicine.
According to Variety, Paul Weitz is writing and directing an American satire called American Dreamz, about the ruthlessness of politics and show business. "The movie examines the roles of dreams and ambition in American culture," he says. "It's about what's wrong with America and how close it is to what's right with America."
Weitz has previously directed American Pie, About A Boy, and In Good Company. Hugh Grant, Dennis Quaid, and Chris Klein, three actors who have worked on his movies in the past, are in talks to join the cast. They are also chasing Mandy Moore to sign up. The movie would follow Grant, as a British TV personality, and Quaid as the U.S. President on the verge of a meltdown.
I am a fan of Weitz's movies (Down To Earth aside) and would be interested to see what he could do with a satire. Universal Pictures is releasing the film, and production may begin as early as July. No word yet on if the film will involve any perversions towards baked goods.
