It’s easy to forget that while she recently has been spending most of her time in a tricky vampire love triangle on HBO’s True Blood, Anna Paquin was and still is a movie star. The 29-year-old actress showed up briefly in Wes Craven’s latest horror attempt, Scream 4, and will be starring in the upcoming Margaret.
According to Variety, Paquin has also joined Straight A’s for Nu Image/Millenium that is set to start shooting today in Shreveport, LA. Joining her will be Ryan Phillippe, who will take the male lead as a recent rehab releasee unable to shake his dead mother’s ghost. She harasses him to return home to the family he once abandoned, essentially turning this into a stoner road movie as Phillippe gets on his way with nothing but a bag of pills and some pot. Doesn’t sound like rehab did him any good at all.
Paquin will obviously be the draw here since she's the star of one of HBO's most popular series of all time, while Phillippe hasn't really done anything worth mentioning since he divorced Reese Witherspoon back in 2008. Most recently appearing in The Lincoln Lawyer with Matthew McConaughey, Phillippe could be looking to score big with Straight A's and start finding himself more leading roles in the years to come.
On board to direct is James Cox who has been absent from the film scene since directing Wonderland back in 2003. But hey, how hard can it be to make a movie, right? It’s probably just like riding a bike, you never really forget.
