Ant-Man Director Shared This Gift With Fans As The Movie Wraps Filming
Ant-Man has dealt with several setbacks this past year, but in the end, everything seems to have worked out. After nearly four months of filming in locations like San Francisco and Atlanta, principal photography has wrapped on the movie. Director Peyton Reed took to Twitter this weekend to make the announcement, and left an interesting picture and tease for the fans along with his message.
The ants may have left the building, but it won’t be the last we’re seeing of them. Ant-Man is scheduled to be released on July 17, 2015, and will be the final entry of Marvel’s Phase Two. The image looks like an old-school drawing of the shrinking superhero (possibly by original artist Jack Kirby), but what’s more intriguing is Reed writing "Stay tuned." Are there some Ant-Man goodies along the way? Hopefully yes, considering how few news items we get on this film. Granted, it’s no The Avengers: Age of Ultron, but with actors like Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly starring in what sounds like a exciting heist story, it would be nice to get a better idea of what we’ll be seeing next summer.
As mentioned, Ant-Man had a bit of a troubled few months in the first half of 2014. In May, director Edgar Wright, who had been attached to the project since 2006 (even before the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a thing) left due to creative differences. Several weeks later, Peyton Reed was announced as his successor, and Adam McKay was brought on board to rewrite parts of the script (along with Paul Rudd). Then in July, actors Kevin Weisman and Matt Gerald’s characters wound up getting cut from the film, and Watchmen actor Patrick Wilson was forced to leave due to scheduling conflicts caused by the production delay. However, filming eventually began on August 18th and officially finished on December 5th.
With principal photography wrapped up, now the post-production work on Ant-Man can begin, i.e. adding in the cool visual effects. Aside from the brief footage shown at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con and the ABC TV special Marvel 75 Years: From Pulp to Pop!, there’s not much we’ve seen from the movie. Now that all the scenes have been shot (aside from possible reshoots), as well as Reed’s line "Stay tuned," it’s likely that we’ll start to see official imagery released soon. Given Marvel’s habit of releasing trailers approximately half a year before the film comes out, we may even see the first Ant-Man trailer in the next couple months. The Super Bowl would be an ideal opportunity to release a 30 second teaser, followed by posting the first full trailer online later. In the meantime, let’s get a clear look at Paul Rudd in the Ant-Man suit already!
