We now all live in a world where one lucky individual not only owns a Tron: Legacy motorcycle, but is also able to ride around on it and make people that they drive past burn with envy as it lights up. And while that’s truly a spectacular and uplifting tale that proves we live a wonderful age, the only truly negative aspect of this story is that I’m not the one who owns it… which is mostly due to the fact that I don’t have a spare $77,000 lying around to spend on movie memorabilia.
According to RM Auctions the rather spiffing Tron: Legacy-inspired motorcycle - which rivals Terminator 2: Judgement Day’s 1990 Harley Davidson, The Great Escape’s 1961 Triumph Trophy Bird, and Easy Rider’s Harley as the greatest movie bike ever - sold on Saturday May 2nd for the impressive amount. This of course means that the person who created it is now laughing all the way to the bank mentioned above.

That’s perhaps as screen-accurate as any actually functioning motorcycle is going to get. The wheels are a work of art, and the whole thing is so pretty that you can imagine the owner being afraid of scratching it or getting it dirty. But as impressive as the bike looks above, it’s even more beautiful with all of its lights activated:
Built for Andrews Collection, America’s largest and most renowned car collections, the unique motorcycle was sold for almost twice as much as predicted over the weekend. Andrews had guessed that it would be worth between $25,000 - $40,000 earlier in the week. They insist that the "compelling work of mobile art," which boasts black paint with a white stripe, is not only easy to ride because of its low seat height, but they’ve also revealed that it’s only been driven around their facilities a handful of times. I imagine at least some of that could be considered joy riding.
Unfortunately though, despite the fact that this bike is clearly one of the greatest pieces of movie memorabilia ever created, it still doesn’t stop Tron: Legacy from being overwhelmingly average. Hopefully things will get better with the in-development Tron 3, which is expected to start production later this year.
