I have to admit, I was expecting more people to be talking about Love and Other Drugs this morning-- the Anne Hathaway/Jake Gyllenhaal romantic comedy had been heavily promoted, and seemed like a good option for families getting together over Thanksgiving, at least families where everyone is over the age of 17 and can handle a few penis jokes. But the movie only grossed $14 million over the five-day weekend, meaning far fewer of you saw it than saw Tangled or Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 for the fourth time. Now that Anne Hathaway is set to host the Oscars we may be in for a lot more talk about the movie, but it's still far from a big hit.
And yet, my pals David Ehrlich, Dave Gonzales and I felt like there was a lot to discuss about the movie, and a few weeks ago got together on Skype to talk about the movie's incredibly misleading marketing campaign, the way the plot fiddles with the traditional romantic comedy arc, and how we all reacted to copious amounts of Hathaway and Gyllenhaal nudity (pretty well, of course).
