Is Avengers 2 Going To Kill Off (Spoiler)?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has done a good job of keeping its superheroes alive over the last seven years, but that soon may change. Avengers: Age of Ultron will feature an impressive lineup of nine Marvel heroes, including the previous movie’s lineup and new additions Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and The Vision. However, in the battle against Ultron and his minions, it’s now been suggested that one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes won’t make it out alive.
There are potential spoilers for Avengers: Age of Ultron ahead, so turn back now if you want to stay surprised.
A rumor published by Bleeding Cool states that Quicksilver, played by Aaron Taylor Johnson, will perish during Avengers: Age of Ultron, though the article didn’t go into specifics on how he would die. Killing off Quicksilver would be an unusual choice given that this is his first full appearance in the MCU (he and Scarlet Witch first appeared in the post-credits scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier). However -- and this is important to note -- Johnson also signed a multi-film deal with Marvel, and more often than not, the studio takes full advantage of those. However, if the movie is working to surprise both general moviegoers and comic book fans, snuffing out the speedster who just got the chance to shine would certainly do the job.
As it turns out, Quicksilver biting the dust may not be in the cards. When asked on Twitter whether this rumor had any legitimacy, Devin Faraci from Badass Digest stated it wasn’t true.
While it’s been strongly hinted that someone will die in Avengers: Age of Ultron, we’ll have to wait and see whether it really is one of the Avengers or just one of the supporting characters. If Quicksilver does survive, it’s unclear when his next appearance in the MCU would be. If he and his sister retain their Avengers membership, then we could see them in one of the Avengers: Infinity War movies. Or, if the studio wanted to establish a connection with a separate group of individuals with powers, he and his sister could appear in the Inhumans movie.
There’s one especially important reason to keep Quicksilver alive. If Marvel and 20th Century Fox eventually decide that they want to cross over with each other, there has to be a race between the MCU Quicksilver and the X-Men Quicksilver. Which version of Marvel’s most famous speedster is the fastest? That’s a question that needs answering.
Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in theaters on May 1.
