The two theatrical trailers that have been released over the past couple of months have certainly done a great job prepping us for all the epic battles, beat-downs and explosions that The Avengers: Age of Ultron will deliver on the big screen this summer, but it’s kind of amazing to see just how much of it is backed into this quick 30 second TV spot. Sure, the whole thing starts off a bit slow, with some single shots of various characters like Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Ultron (James Spader), but once robots start flying out of walls and buildings start to explode the whole thing is really taken up a notch. Let’s do a quick recap, shall we? There’s Iron Man being blasted into a wall:
Captain America being choked out by one of Ultron’s many, many robot henchmen:
And, of course, the insanely highly anticipated battle that will see Hulk go up against Tony Stark’s Hulkbuster armor:
The folks at Marvel certainly had a big task put ahead of them when the first Avengers film would up not only being such a huge hit, but also a truly fantastic big screen spectacle. From everything we’ve seen so far, it looks like The Avengers: Age of Ultron should easily match its predecessor in both respects, and we couldn’t be more excited.
Written and directed by Joss Whedon, The Avengers: Age of Ultron begins finding Tony Stark restarting a dormant peacekeeping program in order to try and help keep the world safe following the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D.... but what he accidentally winds up doing instead is introducing Earth to its greatest threat yet, the robotic villain Ultron. Along with Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and some new friends, Iron Man and his team must stop the menace they created before it is too late and they are labeled responsible for dooming the human race. Don Cheadle, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, Stellan Skarsgård, James Spader and Samuel L. Jackson co-star in the movie, which will be in theaters on May 1st.
