With Thor and Captain America both scheduled to be released in eye-popping 3D, it should come as no surprise that the film that brings them and their superhero brethren together, The Avengers, will be getting the same treatment. But while Thor and Cap are getting 3D-ified after the fact, The Avengers will apparently be forcing poor Joss Whedon to work with the monstrosities that are 3D cameras.

This is coming from Roger Friedman at Showbiz 411, a man who tends to have his facts straight on these things as much as we may hate to admit it. The Avengers starts shooting in February and is scheduled for a summer 2012 release, so shooting in 3D will at least save them the embarrassment of having to rush through post-production 3D and putting out something that somehow looks even worse than Clash of the Titans. Does The Avengers need to be in 3D? Of course not. But if they're going to do it, they may as well do it right from the beginning.
