UPDATE: The Skrulls-Kree rumor has not been confirmed by any official source. Read more here.

Details are finally starting to emerge on The Avengers. The long-awaited Marvel extravaganza has been built up and discussed for years without any plot clarification, but with plans already in place to begin shooting, we’re getting specifics. Word is the basic plot will see the Avengers do battle against two alien races: Skrulls and Kree in a mashing of Iron Man, Thor and Captain America Avengers story lines.

AICN first reported the news based on an article in the Albuquerque Journal, but the whole thing might not be as far fetched as it seems. The Avengers is scheduled to shoot in New Mexico during most of 2011. If any non-studio third party would know, it would likely be one in or around Albuquerque.

In addition to the Skrulls and Kree, there’s also a rumor going around that Demi Lovato of Disney fame is up for a role in the film. The gossip was first reported by Radar Online, though it’s unclear who exactly the teen queen might play. More than likely, the potential role would be a smaller side character or bit part; so, don’t go getting your panties in a bunch with crazy assumptions.
