Every superhero movie is expected to be a summer blockbuster action spectacular, but Marvel Studio's The Avengers should operate on a level unlike anything we've ever seen. The film will bring together four of comic book history's greatest heroes, have the government agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. in full effect, and will pit the team them against one of Marvel's greatest villains. In short, don't be surprised that the production will be blowing up Cleveland for the film.
Cleveland.com reports that production designers are working hard to turn East Ninth Street into something that resembles New York City's 42nd Street with the intention of blowing it to kingdom come starting on August 15 According to the story, the movie is currently working at NASA Plum Brook in Sandusky, Ohio and then will move to the city to film one of its action sequences over the next four weeks. It's expected that Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and more will be present during the scene. Speaking at a press conference this morning producer Patty Whitcher said, "We have to keep people back a bit for safety reasons -- there will be explosions -- but they will be able to see the actors and their favorite Avengers on the street during the filming."
Am I the only one who is still in shock that this movie is actually happening? Back in 2008 when Iron Man came out and the idea was first pitched it seemed like such a pipe dream, but now they actually have plans to blow up Cleveland as a stand-in for New York. It's a comic book geek's dream-come-true and we can only hope that it comes together successfully.
