The Avengers To Be Shown In Space

Given that The Avengers has made over a billion dollars at the international box office, it's fair to say that just about everyone on planet Earth has gotten to see the superhero team-up movie already. But now it's time for the folks in space to watch it.

No, sadly I'm not talking about advance alien life, but rather the crew of the International Space Station. Marvel and Disney have announced that they will be hosting a special screening for the men and women aboard the spacecraft, which currently flies at about 220 miles above the Earth's surface. The movie is being sent to NASA’s Mission Control in Houston where they will digitally send the film to the orbiting station. The space station is currently working on Expedition 31 with a six member crew including 2 astronauts from NASA, one from the European Space Agency, and three Russian Cosmonauts.

Said Louis D’Esposito, Marvel Studios’ Co-President about the event, "The studio is privileged to share Marvel’s The Avengers with those up in space exploring the universe. A special thanks goes to NASA for utilizing their incredible technology to make this special screening miles above us in space happen. It is a screening that would make Tony Stark envious."

This actually isn't the only connection that The Avengers has with NASA. During production, director Joss Whedon and his cast and crew set up camp at the Space Power Facility at NASA’s Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio.
