Unlike the many Julian Assange films in development right now, a film about the massive BP oil spill that happened last year will be much more relevant for a much longer period of time and it looks like Summit, Participant, and Imagenation Abu Dhabi know that. According to Deadline, the three production houses are teaming up and taking aim at the tragic oil disaster.
The film will be based on a New York Times article titled Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hours written by David Barstow, David Rohde, and Stephanie Saul, which chronicled in depth the events leading up to and including the sinking of the now legendary oil rig. At the screenwriting pen is Ninja Assassin writers Matthew Sand who has no other credits under his belt to assure us of Horizons’ quality.
Hopefully this movie will take the opportunity to comment on the world’s need to get away from oil based energy, not only because it’s dangerous to drill for, but because the world is simply running out. They have a chance to make some very serious points about oil dependency and the many politicians who are in the pockets of these oil companies, and with any luck this film will take a political stance rather than just show off an action movie.
