Barry Munday Trailer: No Balls? No Problem!
SXSW is just a few weeks away, which means it's time for some of the higher profile debuts to start ratcheting up their publicity campaigns. You already know about Kick-Ass and MacGruber, but how about a movie about a guy with no balls? Who gets a girl pregnant? Who is played by Watchmen's Nite Owl? Yeah, I thought not.
I don’t want to call this movie Knocked Up II: The Barry Munday Story, but man it looks close. The premise is quirky enough: Ladies man Barry (Patrick Wilson) gets beat up in movie theater, wakes up in hospital and finds testicles have been removed. Guy starts recovering in time to find out he got someone preggo right before he lost his little friends. Guy embarks on the adventure of impending parenthood with his newfound, pregnant girlfriend (Judy Greer). Guy is not Seth Rogen.
Knocked Up really explored unplanned pregnancy and how young, unprepared people cope with the responsibility of a lifetime, while also adding the perfect amount of comedy. From the Barry Munday trailer, it looks like Barry is on a similar path but slightly altered; this will be his only chance to ever have children. Barry Munday looks equal parts “Soon to be daddy” and “I’ve lost my manhood.” (Some would say they’re one in the same). Are there laughs in babies and balls? For sure.
Making a movie like this funny and endearing is no easy task, but from the trailer, Barry Munday looks like it’s on the right track. We'll give you the full report on how it fares at SXSW in a few weeks.
Want to see it? The premiere screening of the Barry Monday will be during SXSW on March 13 at 1:30 PM at The Paramount. Patrick Wilson, Chloe Sevigny, Chris D'Arienzo (writer/direct) and Frank Turner Hollon will be in attendance.
