Battle: Los Angeles Trailer Sets The Mood, Teases The Aliens

Battle: Los Angeles, somewhat similarly to Skyline, is an alien invasion movie filmed relatively cheaply and being promoted as a massive, Roland Emmerich-scale event movie. Unlike what I'm hearing about Skyline, though, Battle: Los Angeles seems likely to have the goods to back it up. From what we can tell it's more of a war film than an alien one, focusing on a troop of Marines led by Aaron Eckhart as they take to the streets of Los Angeles to fend off the invasion.

The film's director Jonathan Liebesman is relatively unknown now, but since wrapping Battle: Los Angeles late in 2009 his name has surfaced in connection to a few high-profile projects, including Superman before Zack Snyder snagged it. As the film nears its March 11 release date we're going to start seeing a lot more from it, starting with a fascinating new trailer that surfaced at Teaser-Trailer.com. It's the one that showed to somewhat stunned response at New York Comic Con a month ago, and once you see the gripping imagery and hear the weird, robotic-voiced song, you'll understand why. It's a great way to set the movie apart from your average alien movie, and though it goes a little light on the military aspects that seem to make up the bulk of the film-- not to mention only showing the alien creatures in brief flashes-- there's surely time for that later on.

Check out the first Battle: Los Angeles trailer below.

UPDATE: Omelete has posted an international trailer that's utterly different from the domestic one above-- less interesting too, and a little more focused on the worldwide conspiracy angle of the alien invasion. Anyway, it's also embedded below.
