Beautiful Creatures Clip Introduces Us To Emmy Rossum's Ridley

Showtime subscribers can find Emmy Rossum returned to her leading role as Fiona Gallagher in Shameless on Sunday nights, and coming next month, we'll see her taking on the part of Ridley Duchannes in the feature adaptation of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's novel Beautiful Creatures. The latest clip for the movie introduces us to flirtatious and manipulative caster Ridley as she tracks down the story's leading male.

The scene is certainly recognizable from the book as Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich) meets the cousin of his love interest Lena Duschannes (Alice Englert). At this point in the story, Ethan is only just coming to learn just how different Lena and her family are. The story focuses on the two characters' growing connection with one another and Lena's approaching birthday, during which she'll be "claimed" either for Light or Dark. Ridley is Lena's cousin, and she's already been claimed. You can guess which side called dibs on her.

We can nitpick this scene a bit if we wanted to, as there are a few notable differences from book to movie, like the location (in the book, the introduction to Ridley takes place in the parking lot of the Stop & Steal), the kiss, the car (in the book, it's a Mini Cooper) and Ridley's hair, which is described as blond with a thick pink stripe. But these are all pretty minor alterations. Rossum's short brown hair works just fine, and in the end, Ridley still makes her debut in confident, dramatic fashion, and that seems to fit with the character and story. Plus, she appears to be getting the job done in whisking Ethan away to meet the rest of the family.

Beautiful Creatures arrives in theaters February 14. More information, photos and video can be found in our Blend Film Database.
