Behold! Thor: The Dark World Poster With Heroes And Villains
Sure, the first Thor: The Dark World poster showed off the movie’s brawny blond hero with his mighty Mjolnir. But fanboys and fangirls around the world are sure to geek out over the latest poster for this hotly anticipated sequel to Thor. Unveiled by EW, the poster above not only shows off its leads, but also much of the beloved supporting cast from the first film, which took in a whopping $449 million worldwide.
In the foreground you have Thor (Chris Hemsworth) reunited with his Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who has shed her practical Earthling clothes and is instead decked out in glorious Asgard gear. Then, just over his right shoulder is big daddy Odin (Anthony Hopkins) with armor on, a massive spear, and a black bird posse. Over Thor’s left shoulder sneers his adopted brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who recently won the utter devotion of crowds at Comic-Con in exchange for a look at the film’s latest trailer! ( From what we hear, it was totally worth it.)
Further back you can spot Thor’s dedicated friends, Sif (The Last Stand’s Jaimie Alexander), Volstagg (G.I. Joe: Retaliation’s Ray Stevenson), Frandral (Chuck/i>’s Zachary Levi, replacing Josh Dallas) and Hogun (Battleship’s Tadanobu Asano). Gatekeeper of the Bifrost Heimdall (Idris Elba) can be spotted in the upper left portion of the poster, standing tall right before the furrowed brow of this movie’s villain: Malekith.
English actor Christopher Eccleston, who memorably played Doctor Who in 2005, plays this newly introduced character that who leads the Dark Elves. These vicious, vengeful warriors can be spotted marching towards the bottom of the poster, under the ominous glow of the Fist of Malekith, our villain’s invading Black Ark ship. It seems the only people who didn’t make this poster are Jane’s buds Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard).
Thor: The Dark World is expected to pick up one year after the events we saw unfold in The Avengers. This means Thor and his ladylove Jane are separated once more, and Loki is shackled in a prison cell in Asgard for his crimes against humanity. But when a mysterious threat surfaces that puts the safety of all nine realms in danger, Thor brings Jane to Asgard for safekeeping and releases Loki for added backup as he takes on an ancient race hell-bent on universal destruction.
