Back in October, we learned the awesome news that David Chase, the creator of The Sopranos, was officially moving forward with his feature directorial debut: a period drama about the rise and fall of rock-and-roll band. With the announcement came the news that Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Bang guitarist and Sopranos star Steve Van Zandt would come aboard as the film's music supervisor and actors John Magaro, Jack Huston and Will Brill were all named as part of the cast. Now the project has added its first actress.
Deadline reports that Bella Heathcote has signed on to play the female lead in the film, which has been retitled Twylight Zones (the only difference is the "y" instead of an "i" and the lack of a "the"). Heathcote, who is originally from Australia, was the recipient of a scholarship given in the name of Heath Ledger that gives young actors and actresses the opportunity to fly to America and make a go of it in Hollywood. The actress will next be seen in Now, alongside Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried and Olivia Wilde, and has also signed on to Cogan's Trade, in which she will co-star with Brad Pitt.
I'm still surprised that it's taken this long for Chase to make his way into the movies, but this project sounds like it will be worth the weight. Music makes for a great film subject and in the hands of someone like David Chase, I on;y have the highest hopes.
