Ben Whishaw Will Play Q In New James Bond Adventure, Skyfall
A few weeks ago we received both a lot of great news about the new James Bond movie, but were also really kept in the dark on a lot of things. Holding a press conference in London, the production announced the title of the new movie, Skyfall, as well as its full cast, which includes Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardfem, Ben Whishaw, Naomi Harris, Albert Finney, and Ralph Fiennes. What we didn't get to hear much about, however, was what characters the newcomers to the franchise might be playing. Now one piece of that puzzle has been taken care of.
The BBC has learned that Whishaw will be playing the role of Q in Skyfall. A character that wasn't featured in either previous Craig film, which includes Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, in the James Bond universe he is known for equipping 007 with the latest and greatest technology to fight evil. Previously the character was played by Desmond Llewelyn and John Cleese, however, at the age of 31 Whishaw will easily be the youngest actor to play the role. This means that he will be younger than even Bond himself, as Daniel Craig is now 43. Directed by Sam Mendes, Skyfall is currently in production and is scheduled to be released on November 9, 2012.
I love hearing this news. For the longest time Naomi Harris was rumored to be playing Moneypenny, M's assistant, but that rumor was proven false at the aforementioned press conference. It's always great to see more of Ian Fleming's original characters in the film universe, but what do you think of Ben Whishaw playing the part? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
