Bend It Like J.R.
Dallas: The Movie is back on track. The primetime soap to movie adaptation is on the verge of hiring a new director. .
The Hollywood Reporter says 20th Century Fox is looking at Kenya born, Bollywood inpsired, Bend it Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha. She’d be replacing Robert Luketic, who ditched Dallas last week under somewhat mysterious circumstances.
I can’t think of a stranger choice for the Dallas helm, Gurinder’s movies so far have all focused on things she knows a lot about: Indian people. Is she ready wade through the hordes of protesting, Mexican flag waving, illegal immigrants that define the modern world of Dallas, Texas? Wait, that’s the real Dallas. The one that’ll show up in the movie will probably be populated entirely by uptight, rich, white guys in ten-gallon hats. Realism is not a factor in a big screen soap. I guess anyone handle that.
Chadha is apparently still in talks to take over, so it’s not a done deal yet. But when Luketic left last week, Dallas was pulled off Fox’s release schedule. With a big name cast featuring people like John Travolta and Jennifer Lopez, and a ton of national buzz, they’re probably eager to get the film going as fast as possible.
