Benedict Cumberbatch Joins Guillermo Del Toro's Haunted House Flick Crimson Peak
Sure, Benedict Cumberbatch still has one of the stranger names in Hollywood, but he's fast becoming a household name. The stellar British series Sherlock is only the start of it. He’s also put in quality performances in almost every film he’s been in, including War Horse and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, but it will be his evil villainy in the upcoming Star Trek: Into Darkness is going to rocket him into the forefront of the American consciousness.
So after having worked with Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, and J.J. Abrams, Cumberbatch is now set to work for another massively popular and talented director, as The Hollywood Reporter reveals he has just signed on for Guillermo Del Toro’s next project, the haunted house gothic romance thriller Crimson Peak, produced by Legendary Pictures. Del Toro’s films usually come with a bit of secrecy attached, so it’s really no surprise that Cumberbatch’s place within the film has not yet been revealed. He’ll be joining a cast that already includes Charlie Hunnam and Emma Stone.
We’ll probably have to wait quite a while after the July 12, 2013 release date of Del Toro’s “giant monsters vs. giant robots” action flickPacific Rim to actually get any real details about Crimson Peak, but for now, we know it will be a turn-of-the-century subverted take on gothic romances and haunted house films in general, it will take place in both American and Cumbria, and that it involves a woman discovering that her husband isn’t exactly what she thinks he is. Sounds like most marriage stories nowadays.
