Bond's Boring Teasers Online

James Bond is back, and even he doesn’t look all that excited about it.

The first teaser trailer for the upcoming Bond franchise reboot Casino Royale is online… and it’s in French. It’s a French teaser trailer which I guess might explain it’s pretentious, boring, indie film black and white style. It’s boring, it’s amateurish, and it looks like they’ve cut all the fun and glitz right out of Bond and turned the thing into a film school project.

You won’t be impressed.

Along with the trailer is the film’s first teaser poster, from MovieHole and CommanderBond.net. Look to your right to be bored by that.

Sadly, this all fits with what we’ve heard in recent months about the new direction of the franchise. Bond’s producers seem determined to shift it more in the direction of the small-scale Bourne movies, tuning Bond into a more human, self-doubting, flawed character. What they’re missing is the real reason we like Bond in the first place. He’s not supposed to be flawed, he’s not supposed to be angsty. He’s James Bond. The epitome of cool. He’s supposed to be the man we all wish we could be, not the guy who lives next door. Well no more.
