Bond Moves To November 14
Yeah, I know, it's over three months away, but James Bond has already made my Thanksgiving totally awesome. Two years ago I took my dad to see Casino Royale over Thanksgiving , after it opened on November 17. And last year I took him to see Enchanted, a movie he, inexplicably, was also excited to see. But this year, for holiday moviegoing, I was stuck with a movie about a talking dog (Bolt), a generic romantic comedy (Four Christmases), and, uh, a vampire teen romance (Twilight) all dominating the holiday release frame.
But Dad, we have a date! Quantum of Solace has been pushed back a week, set to open on November 14, two weeks before the big holiday and plenty early enough for it to be possible to buy tickets when I come home for Thanksgiving. Sony admits they're basically just capitalizing on the fact that Harry Potter recently left that date in favor of a release next summer, but even their remaining competition is no competition at all. There's Australia, the Baz Luhrmann epic that looks amazing, but not exactly appealing to the Bond fanatics. And then there's The Road, practically guaranteed to be the most depressing movie of 2008. I admit I want to see all three, but when it comes to holiday entertainment, who wouldn't choose the gun-toting 007?
So mark your calendars: Quantum of Solace, November 14. Or, if you're like me, Quantum of Solace, November 28, the day after Thanksgiving, and full of delicious, delicious turkey. Wait, why isn't it Thanksgiving already by now?
Update! It's only been hours since Bond jumped release dates and already someone has moved to fill his November 7th void. Universal has announced that they're moving Role Models to be released on November 7.
