The British Are Coming To Give Denzel An Award
The British Academy Of Film And Television Arts/ Los Angeles is noteworthy for two different reasons: it has an insanely long name with no applicable acronym other than TBAOFATLA and most importantly, it gives out an award every year. The annual honor, entitled the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award For Excellence In Film, isn’t exactly life changing, but it is better than a below-average dinner or stubbing your toe.
According to Variety, this year’s annual recipient of the Kubrick will be none other than Denzel Washington. You probably remember him as the star of Philadelphia and Remember The Titans, or that asshole who stole your iPod last week. The formal gala is quickly approaching on November 1st; so, I would suggest you start saving your money or befriending a ticket scalper.
Washington can next be seen opposite Russell Crowe in Ridley’s Scott’s new masterwork American Gangster. Conventional wisdom would tell you that two of our generation’s best actors and a brilliant director can’t possibly do wrong; however, combining three great things doesn’t always work out. For some reason, beautiful women, old Wrestlemania episodes, and Guitar Hero just don’t mix.
