Brittany Murphy Is Tinker Bell
Disney is dipping back in to its old animated properties again, this time with a Peter Pan spin-off focused on Tinker Bell.
The announcement came at a toy licensing convention in New York, where Disney Consumer Products unveiled Brittany Murphy as the voice of the previously voiceless character. The movie will explore the secret lives of Disney fairies in Pixie Hollow, with spunky, sassy Tink as the focus. Brittany won’t be the only big star involved, the rest of the cast is expected to fill up with other major Hollywood names.
Murphy couldn’t be happier. “To give Tinker Bell a voice for the first time in history is such an honor,” she says.
Disney is planning the all CGI-animated movie for a Fall 2007 release. The focus for the project really seems to be more around the marketing campaign and toy lines than the film itself though. After all, it was announced at a toy convention. Disney probably sees dollar signs in a massive line of fairy products sold to little girls.
Obviously those of us who thought Pixar’s merger with Disney would put a stop to some of their low budget knockoff of old Disney franchises were dead wrong. Still, this sounds like the kind of movie that little girls are going to go absolutely nuts for and if you’re going to make a movie about Tink, Brittany Murphy’s not a bad choice for her voice. Parents: brace yourselves for the next little kid fad.
