Brokeback Lassos DGA Award
First we bring you the nominees, then we bring you the winners…
Ang Lee took home the prestigious Director’s Guild Award over the weekend for his rogue cowboy drama Brokeback Mountain, beating out Crash, Capote, Munich, and Good Night and Good Luck; not a big surprise given how other awards ceremonies this year have showered Brokeback with praise. The award sets Lee in what many consider to be the lead in the Oscar race now, given the DGA’s past performance predicting Oscar winners – accurate 51 out of 57 times.
Brokeback also recently won the Producer’s Guild Award, marking it as the film to beat by both producers and directors.
Other winners of note included Werner Herzog for his documentary Grizzly Man, who dedicated half of the award to the subject of his documentary, Timothy Treadwell, who was killed by bears in 2003. Clint Eastwood accepted a lifetime achievement award (or as he hopes to call it – a mid-life achievement award).
