I've heard Broken Lizard described as a "creative force" and likened to a modern day Monty Python. That might be overstating it a bit. Aren't these the guys who made that horrible horror parody with Bill Paxton in it? Yes, yes they is.
They did however have that really funny scene at the beginning of Super Troopers, and Broken Lizard fat guy member Kevin Heffernan was flat out genius as Ron Wilson: Bust Driver in Sky High, so maybe that justifies this funny factory label that's been thrust upon them. On the other hand Jay Chandrasekhar did direct Dukes of Hazzard. Yeah, let's definitely tap the break on the genius heralding just a little bit.
Whatever you're feelings on Broken Lizard, they do seem to have a nice foothold in Hollywood. They're not having any trouble getting their next movie made, the box office receipts of Dukes probably had a little something to do with that.
Their next comedy is Beerfest, a film about the holiest of holies: Beer. In this film beer will be drank, drunk, and probably even a little drunken. Is there any place better to get plastered than Oktoberfest? They think not, and so they've set the movie there. Good choice, as is the premise. They're describing it as Fight Club, but with beer instead of black eyes and fists.
With the movie set for an August 25 release, Warner Bros. has handed us the first official poster for the film, and is pushing the movie's trailer out online. Go ahead and click here to watch it, and keep hoping that some day they'll top that four or five brilliant minutes in Super Troopers.
