Bryan Singer Confirms Bishop, Warpath For X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Bryan Singer is no stranger to social media, having used both Twitter and Vine to break casting news as he puts X-Men: Days of Future Past together. His latest Vine is a clever montage of director’s chairs that reveals a bit of previously unknown information about the mutants we’re going to see in the upcoming sequel. Are you ready for Bishop, Blink and Warpath?
Singer has his chairs in a semi-circle as he starts with Logan (Hugh Jackman) and runs through hthe usual suspects. Xavier (who will be played by both Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy), Magneto (played by Sir Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender), Storm (Halle Berry), Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) and other are paraded through Singer’s Vine. And then we get a few new faces.
Bishop was a very popular character on the X-Men animated series from the 1990s, having been introduced in the books during the John Byrne era. Interestingly enough, Bishop was the time-traveling catalyst for the Days of Future Past storyline in that TV series, taking Kitty Pryde’s place from the original comics. That makes me wonder how he’ll be used, if Singer plans to have both Bishop and Kitty in his version of Future Past.
James “Warpath” Proudstar is another second- or third-tier mutant who began as a member of the New Mutants but was utilized in different stories over the years. Like a lot of mutants, Warpath went rogue and joined the evil Hellions. He’s probably best known for fighting as a member of X-Force, where he picked up the code name Warpath after previously going by the moniker Thunderbird (an identity his late brother once used).
We knew that Singer was going to have an unprecedented number of mutants in his sequel. We can only hope they don’t get shortchanged, like Colossus or Rogue have been to date. More mutants sounds good on paper. Pulling them all together for the benefit of one two-hour film? That’s going to be a challenge.
