Bully Williams
Night at the Museum keeps getting weirder and weirder.
First was the idea of a movie where museum exhibits come to life and a hapless guard has to deal with that. Then was the idea of putting Ben Stiller (or Stiller “the role killer” as some people like to call him for his over the top antics) in the heroic role. Next we decide to place Carla Gugino as the love interest (no chance in hell Stiller). And then just yesterday we find out the villains of the movie will be played by comedic relics Dick Van Dyke and Mickey Rooney. But wait, there’s more!
Today The Hollywood Reporter is announcing that one of the exhibits to come to life will be a display of Teddy Roosevelt, who will be played by Robin Williams! That’s just bully.
Is this beginning to feel like the decades version of Ishtar to anyone else? Seriously – wrap all of the comedic talent that is going into this movie into a single film and it’s almost guaranteed to bomb, isn’t it?
I certainly hope not. Stiller has proven himself as the comedic hero in the past (Something About Mary) although his recent track record has been stronger in over the top villain roles (Dodgeball) rather then romantic comedy types (Along Came Polly). I’d almost like to hear he was playing the bad guy though, giving Williams, Van Dyke, or even Mickey Rooney a shot at Gugino and playing the hero one last time.
Night at the Museum is slated for a holiday release.
