Burt Reynolds is set to topline a British comedy. He’ll star in A Bunch of Amateurs as a washed up Hollywood action hero named Jefferson Steel. Out of work and desperate he tries to revive his flatlined career by taking on the role of King Lear in a British theater. He shows up only to discover it’s an amateur drama group in the middle of nowhere.

I’ve never really thought of Burt Reynolds as much of a comedian. Instead of Burt, they should have hired Norm Macdonald to do his Burt Reynolds impression for the film. Now that’s hilarious. Instead HR says they’ve got the real, less funny Reynolds along with Imelda Staunton, Derek Jacobi, and Samantha Bond (Miss Moneypenny in the Brosnan Bond movies).

American television director Andy Cadiff will helm. You can thank him for such small screen gems as Herman’s Head and 71 episodes of Spin City.
