Burt Reynolds Has Money Problems So He's Auctioning Off All His Stuff
It turns out that Burt Reynolds is in somewhat of a financial crisis. But rather than calling up his pals and asking for a few extra dollars or picking up a guitar and playing in subways for some change, he has devised a rather ingenious way to raise some funds. Burt Reynolds has decided to sell off some of his most prized possessions, most of which he collected throughout his time in the movie business.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Burt Reynolds is hoping his legion of fans will be interested in acquiring these possessions. One of the most impressive items on the list that has now become available is the 78-year-old’s Golden Globe Award. There are actually two of these available. One of these is for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture, which he picked up in 1999 for his performance in Boogie Nights. The other, which he claimed back in 1992, is the Best Performance by an Actor in a TV-Series, which Reynolds claimed for his performance in Evening Shade.
Around 600 items that were owned by Burt Reynolds will be auctioned off at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas later this month. The auction catalog, which is entitled Property From the Life and Career of Burt Reynolds, will be run by Julien’s Live auction house. Alongside his variety of awards you will also be able to pick up a football helmet from The Longest Yard, Burt Reynolds’ monogrammed boots from Striptease, and a shirt and jacket he wore in Smokey and the Bandit II.
Certainly one of the most desired items in the collection will be the 1977 Pontiac Trams Am that was used in the original Smokey and the Bandit. The car, which possesses a V-8 engine, looks just as cool, slick and powerful as it did almost 40 years ago. It also has just 12,000 miles on it too, which means that it could prove to be a steal at only $70,000. You can take a closer look at the car below.
I know that it must be incredibly tempting, but if you decide to proceed with a bid and end up owning the iconic car you probably shouldn’t drive quite as recklessly as Burt Reynolds did in Smokey And The Bandit. You can check out some of the film’s greatest car chases on Page Two. It’s a delightful way to spend 10 minutes.
Burt Reynoldshas taken other steps to raise some much needed funds. The actor is currently writing a memoir, which is due to be published in 2015, while he is also teaching acting classes in Florida too. If you want to lend a helping hand, the auction will take place on December 11th and 12th, and you can check out the entire catalog of items up for bid here. And before you ask, yes it does include a pair of leather chaps that were previously owned by Burt Reynolds.
