Captain America Sequel Set For April 2014 Release Date
For years now Marvel Studios has been dominating the summer movie season, whether kicking things off with Iron Man and Thor's early May release dates or letting loose Captain America in late July. But with so many Marvel heroes getting their own movies these days, there might not be enough summer release dates to go around, and now one of them has switched to spring. According to a release from Disney, the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger will open April 4, 2014, and will "pick up where the highly anticipated Marvels' The Avengers leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world."
Though a sequel to Captain America has been inevitable ever since the original opened to $65 million in a single weekend, that release date is pretty much all we know about the film Recent rumors suggested a very diverse list of directors who might take over the project, but no one has been confirmed, and while Chris Evans is definitely on board to play Cap, the switch in time periods means that pretty much no one else from the original film will return.
2014 is so far into the future that nothing else is set for that April 4 release date, though Stretch Armstrong is set for April 11, and an unspecified Marvel movie is set to open May 16 the following month-- maybe a Hawkeye movie? Black Widow? Regardless of what that winds up being, we can all easily look forward to a second Captain America, provided the follow-up has even close to the same amount of charm as the first.
The release from Disney also came with a new image of Cap from The Avengers, which is the one you see above.
