New Captain America: The Winter Soldier TV Spot Shows Off A Surprising Amount Of New Footage
Between the domestic trailers, the international trailers and the two TV spots we've already seen, I was honestly expecting that the rest of the Captain America: The Winter Solider marketing campaign leading up to the theatrical release would just keep recycling all the same footage that we've already seen. You can color me wrong. The third TV spot for Marvel Studios' latest blockbuster has arrived, and it is made up almost entirely of new scenes and clips that we haven't seen before.
There's a lot of interesting details to go over, so let's do a quick breakdown, shall we?
Right at the start we have a new line for Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, who is screaming for somebody to help him get off the grid. While we don't know what his circumstances are exactly, he's obviously found himself in a whole lot of trouble and needs to go dark for a little while (as he's been known to do all the time in the comics). Unfortunately, this scene takes place right before the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) launches a magnetic explosive under Fury's car and leaves him clinging to life.
Next up we have what appears what appears to be some kind of government/military forum for the discussion of national security in the United States in the wake of a mysterious "he" (presumably the Winter Soldier) who has managed to "lay waste to our intelligence agency" (presumably S.H.I.E.L.D.). It would appear that not only are the stakes extremely high in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but that the titular villain is causing quite a bit of chaos.
The clip features a good bit of new hand-to-hand action as well, but the most interesting part is getting to see Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) brawl in what appears to be the bowels of a ship. In previous movies we've gotten to see a lot of her using martial arts and guns to take down the bad guys, but this is a rare sighting of her patented wrist stingers at work. Pretty cool.
Speaking of special character abilities, the final clips of the TV spot also give us some new material featuring Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson a.k.a. Falcon. We can likely expect that some of the coolest bits of Captain America: The Winter Soldier will come as a result of those kick ass wings and embedded pistols.
I can't wait to see how this all comes together in the final product, and we'll all be able to see when the film hits theaters on April 4th.
