Carl Rinsch is the man who would be a Scott. The potential son-in-law-to-be of Ridley came very, very close to directing the new Alien prequel, until Fox decided that only the original director would do. But don't cry too hard for Rinsch; according to The Los Angeles Times, Rinsch has been hired to direct the remake of The Creature from the Black Lagoon, after Breck Eisner bailed on the project earlier this year.

The project is coming from Universal, which also has another horror remake, The Wolfman, coming earlier this year. Rinsch's commercial work has gotten him some attention over in Europe, but his talents are largely unproven so far. Is the monster mash the best way to go for his debut? I guess we're all about to find out whether we like it or not.
