Chanwook Park Is Ok With Being A Cyborg
Chanwook Park is awesome. Just so we get that out of the way. His Vengeance Trilogy is some of the most amazing stuff I’ve seen over the past years, and his JSA was just as good.
So I like many fans, was chomping at the bit to see what he would do next. He said he wanted to get away from the graphic (to say the least) violence and perverse (to say the least) goings on in his Vengeance Trilogy. That figures. No artist wants to stagnate. It was just a question of if he’d go back to the slick style of JSA or do something else.
Well as it turns out the answer is something else. Something waaayyyyy else. It’s so simple and obvious now that I can’t believe I didn’t realize it before. You see Park has decided that he’s going to make a romantic comedy…. about mental illness and a woman who thinks she’s a cyborg. Who didn’t see this coming? The movie is aptly named I Am A Cyborg And That’s OK.
Yes I know. Not quite what we expected but hey, Park has more or less earned a blank check of trust, and until he drops the ball somehow he can trust in my ass being in the theater. You can take your first look at the film over at Twitch Film and then watch the first trailer for it by clicking right here. Will this be a work of genius, or is this simply the first step in the long road that will end with Park having his film directed by Robots ala Von Trier? Only time and several self satisfied vanity projects will tell.
