Chilling Dark Knight Rises Footage Shown At The MTV Movie Awards
MTV celebrated the last year's worth of movies with the annual MTV Movie Awards tonight. During the ceremony Gary Oldman, Christian Bale and Joseph Gordon-Levitt took the stage to introduce a video promoting The Dark Knight Rises. As Joseph Gordon-Levitt put it, "This summer, the story comes to an end." But every end has a beginning. In the case of this franchise, it was Batman Begins, which is where we begin tonight as the trio introduced a video that recaped some of the highlights of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. After that, the audience was brought back to the MTV Movie Awards, and after Christian Bale mentioned how great it was to see Heath Ledger again in the footage, they brought Christopher Nolan out onto the stage to introduce the never-before-seen footage from The Dark Knight Rises.
You can watch the footage below, and we'll talk more about it after.
"Every great story demands a great ending," Nolan said in his intro. "And The Dark Knight Rises is our best possible attempt to put a great ending to this story on screen." He expressed his pride and excitement about it, saying they're "almost finished with it but not quite" and then offered up the footage to whet our appetites.
The video opens with Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) and John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) sitting opposite one another as Blake holds what appears to be her criminal file in front of him and references some "mistakes" she's made, and wonders why she'd run. She responds, "Maybe it's not you I'm running from." This is followed by an image of Bane from behind and Bane then standing in some wet place, presumably underground (the bat cave?), holding a broken Batman mask.
After that, we're taken through a series of quick glimpses of scenes, some of which we've seen in the previously released trailers (the bridge collapse), explosions at the stock market, and a scene in what looks like it could be a Grand Central Station-type place where a suited man is being pushed down into a chair. Bane says "Let the games begin." The bat suit is shown encased in glass. We see the Batpod at least once and The Bat hovering numerous times. And then we see Batman throwing a punch at Bane, who grabs Batman's fist. It cuts back to Blake and Kyle. Blake asks her what she knows about him. Kyle responds, "That you should be as afraid of him as I am." Chilling stuff!
And if that wasn't enough, below you will also find the fifth television spot for the film, which features a new conversation between Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) and Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman), some new shots of The Bat, and more.
