Like everyone, I sort of liked Alvin and the Chipmunks when I was five. Eventually I grew up and started questioning what sort of house Dave Seville was running where he treated his pets like human kids. Maybe it’s because they brought in so much cash with the whole singing thing.
Alvin and the Chipmunks are back this year, attempting to worm their way back into pop culture with a new CGI re-envisioning of the characters and a movie with Jason Lee as Dave Seville. The part seems like a big step down for Lee, but I’ve got to admit that after watching the movie’s first trailer tonight in front of The Simpsons Movie… the guy really looks and sounds like the old Dave Seville we all remember from our days sitting around in diapers. I mean I really want to hate this movie, but Lee looks good and the new, more chimpunky looking Chipmunks are cute. It’s hard not to go “awww” when they start belting out falsetto tunes.
